Local Leaders in Mathematical Education
Our Local Leaders of Maths Education (LLMEs) work together as part of our wider Maths Hub team to support schools and colleges across our Maths Hub area of Bromley, Croydon, Lambeth, Haringey and Enfield to develop and improve maths teaching. Our LLMEs are experienced at leading maths specific CPD and will be one or more of the following;
Our Primary Team
Mastery Specialists are classroom practitioners who have developed expertise in the mastery approach to teaching maths. Through rigorous and interactive training, they have become experts in introducing and embedding mastery. After first developing a mastery approach in their own classrooms, they progress to supporting colleagues in their own and other schools.
Frankie Saxby Asistant Maths Hub Lead Primary -

Frankie has been teaching in the primary school phase since 2012 and is currently part of the Maths team at Granton Primary School in Lambeth. Since embarking on the Teaching for Mastery journey at her school, Frankie has been deeply inspired by the approach's underpinning principles and enjoys bringing maths to life through the Five Big Ideas. In 2019, she completed her Primary Maths Specialist training with the NCETM and is now an accredited Professional Development Lead. Frankie is passionate about supporting other schools in developing and implementing Teaching for Mastery approaches, working collaboratively to improve maths teaching across the region.
Elizabeth Rawlings - Specialist Knowledge for Early Career Teachers
Elizabeth has been teaching in a primary setting since 2007. She is currently a year 6 teacher at Glenbrook Primary School in Lambeth and also leads maths. She has completed the Primary Mastery Specialist training with the NCETM and is an acreddited Professional Development lead. She has been working with London Thames Maths Hub since 2019 and has worked with many schools, supporting their development and implementation of Teaching for Mastery and has led several work groups, including developing mastery and the SKTM for ECTs. She is passionate about the teaching of maths and developing pupils' positive attitudes towards maths.
Grahame MacMullen - Teaching for Mastery
St Mark's Church of England Primary School
Grahame has been a primary school teacher since 2010 and Maths subject leader at St Mark's in Bromley since 2015. He is a qualified NCETM Primary Mastery Specialist and an Accredited Professional Development Lead for mathematics. Working with NCETM since 2016 has transformed his teaching of mathematics. Using the big ideas of mastery has lead to significantly improved outcomes and far greater achievement and enjoyment of maths for ALL children, based on a deep understanding of mathematical structures and connections and far greater fluency. He enjoys working with classroom teachers, head teachers and Trust leaders to help them to develop a deep understanding of mastery pedagogy and develop a culture of professional learning, reflection and observation in their school. He believes passionately that with the right teaching every child can achieve in maths and that every teacher deserves excellent ongoing professional development. He has been the Maths leader in his Trust since 2019 and is now also the Maths Curriculum leader.
Jane Coleman - Teaching for Mastery
Jane Coleman has been teaching in Croydon for over 20 years and has had involvement with many different types of schools. She has a passion for coaching and mentoring colleagues and has a wealth of experience gained through her time as an AST, ECT mentor and Maths Lead. During her career, Jane has developed an enthusiasm for Teaching for Mastery in Mathematics, enjoying seeing the impact of this approach in her own teaching and the schools she has worked with. Her teaching approach is guided by the 5 Big Ideas in Teaching for Mastery; aiming for children to master concepts and develop a deep understanding. Jane is a Primary Maths Mastery Specialist and PD Lead who has recently left the school environment and is now working as an independent consultant for the Maths Hubs.
Deborah Read - Teaching for Mastery

Debbie Read has been teaching in Primary schools for nearly 20 years and involved in maths mastery since its inception in England. Currently, she leads maths at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary. She has a great enthusiasm for teaching mathematics and continually improving the engagement and understanding of pupils. She enjoys working with other teachers to enhance their pedagogy and to share experiences. Deb has completed Primary Mastery Specialist Training with the NCETM and is an accredited Professional Development Lead.
Carole-Ann Foley - Teaching for Mastery
Primary Maths teaching is my passion! In 2018, Caroel- Ann began training as a Mastery Maths Specialist with the NCETM. During this time, she was lucky enough to join the teacher exchange to Shanghai, to observe and work with the Chinese Maths’ teachers who excelled in their subject.
The following year I completed my Professional Development accreditation course and began leading Maths’ hubs across London and the South-east, supporting schools to develop their curriculum and raise standards in Maths. In the same year I achieved my NPQH, which enabled me to develop leadership skills which enhanced my ability to support other schools to achieve successful and sustainable change.
Last year, following further high-quality training,and support from the NCETM, I became an accredited School Development lead. I am looking forward to my 8th year working with the London Thames Maths Hub!

Vinita Bhasin - Teaching for Mastery
The Minster Junior School
Vinita Bhasin is a Primary Maths Mastery Specialist and PD lead, who has been involved with the Maths Hub since 2018. She has been leading Maths in her school for many years, and has been instrumental in coaching colleagues through PD programmes. She has accumulated a wealth of experience through running work groups for the Maths Hub and through mentoring ECTs. Vinita is an ardent advocate for teaching for mastery in Maths and believes it leads to equity in learning for all children. Her teaching approach is underpinned by children talking about the Maths, which leads to rich and deep understanding. Her aim is to foster a love for Mathematics in all primary-age children.
Jo Wallin - Enhanced Support
Joanne Wallin works for Croydon Local Authority as a Primary School Adviser, providing school improvement support to schools. She is also the LA primary mathematics adviser. Joanne has over twenty years’ classroom experience in EYFS, KS1 and KS2 and was subject leader for mathematics and Assistant Headteacher before working for the LA.
Joanne is passionate about supporting schools to develop and improve their mathematics teaching. Her training experience includes being a Numicon affiliate trainer from 2011 to 2018 and a visiting lecturer to Roehampton University, teaching on the initial teacher education course, from 2014-2016. She is an accredited Professional Development Lead and enjoyed leading the Specialist Knowledge Teaching Mathematics for Early Years programme for several years.
Karen Williams - Specalists Knowledge for Teaching Mathematics
Karen Williams has been teaching primary mathematics for over 25 years. She is currently the lead mathematics lecturer for Initial Teacher Education on the Primary PGCE at the UCL Institute of Education. She was involved in developing one of the National Professional Qualifications for Leading Primary Mathematics. Karen has a passion for supporting and inspiring teachers to have her own genuine love of teaching and understanding mathematics, which they can successfully pass on to their pupils.

Ashveena Mootoo - Teaching for Mastery
Pickhurst Academy
Ashveena Mootoo is the Assistant Headteacher at Pickhurst Junior Academy and has been teaching since 2016. She is committed to empowering teachers through professional development, believing that when teachers feel confident and skilled in their practice—particularly in mathematics—they inspire pupils to develop a genuine love of learning.
As a Teaching for Mastery Specialist, Ashveena leads on embedding mastery principles to promote deep, sustainable understanding in mathematics. She is currently training to become a Professional Development Lead, further strengthening her expertise in designing and facilitating impactful teacher development programmes.
Ashveena is passionate about collaborative leadership and is motivated by the opportunity to nurture and grow leadership capacity in others. By modelling her values and beliefs in the classroom and across the wider school community, she works to create an environment where both staff and pupils are supported, challenged, and enabled to reach their full potential.

Deray Ozgu - Teaching for Mastery

Deray has worked in education for 20 years and has been the Maths Lead at Elmwood Junior School for the past 12 years. In this role, he has successfully led the development of a whole-school approach to teaching and learning in mathematics, with a focus on building secure subject knowledge and coherence across year groups. By embedding the key principles of mastery, Deray has helped to secure significantly improved outcomes in mathematics, with pupils achieving greater fluency, developing a deeper understanding of mathematical structures and connections, and showing increased enjoyment of the subject. He is committed to supporting both staff and pupils to develop confidence, fluency, and a lifelong curiosity for mathematics. Drawing on a wealth of classroom experience, Deray has a particular interest in collaborative professional development and creating opportunities for teachers to reflect on and refine their practice.

Olivia Carr - Teaching for Mastery
Woodcote Primary School
Having struggled with Maths at school, Liv recognises how transformative a Teaching for Mastery approach is in ensuring long term engagement with mathematics. She is a Teaching for Mastery Specialist (Cohort 3), an accredited Professional Development Lead & Specialist Leader of Education for Maths. She previously worked as a Specialist for London South West Maths Hub (2015-2020), also supporting schools within GLF MAT & undertaking a secondary secondment. Inspired by the high quality professional development she has received from working with the NCETM, Liv is passionate about collaborative practice including high-quality lesson design. Liv currently works as Deputy Head/Teaching & Learning Lead at Woodcote Primary, a four-form primary school in Coulsdon, Croydon. She is excited to return to work as a Work Group Lead in 2025 with London Thames Hub
Chloe Thomas - Teaching for Mastery

I am currently Assistant Headteacher at Elmwood Infant School in Croydon and currently in my first year working with the Maths Hub as a Primary Mastery Specialist. With over a decade of experience in primary education, I am passionate about supporting teachers to develop deep mathematical understanding and confidence in the classroom. I believe firmly in the importance of strong foundations in number sense for all children from Reception through to Year 2. This belief will underpin my work with schools, where I'll support the development of sustainable mastery practices that lead to long-term pupil progress. As I begin my journey with the Maths Hub, I am excited to collaborate with other schools to promote the Five Big Ideas in teaching for mastery.

Emma has been teaching mathematics in Secondary school since 2016, she was Head of Faculty for 7 years before taking a part-time teaching position and formalising her role with the Maths hub as Assistant Maths Hub Lead. Emma is passionate about teaching mathematics and ensuring access for all students. Emma has completed Secondary Mastery Specialist training with the NCETM and is an accredited PD lead.

Rosamond Nuglo - Teaching for Mastery

Rosamond Esiman Nuglo - Mensah has been teaching Mathematics in secondary school settings for several years and is currently the Second in Charge of the Mathematics Department at The Ravensbourne School, where she also leads on Key Stage 5 Maths. With a deep commitment to fostering mathematical understanding and a passion for empowering students, Rosamond brings energy and expertise to every lesson. Her approach to teaching is rooted in the principles of Teaching for Mastery, aiming to build students’ confidence and fluency in mathematics through structured, thoughtful pedagogy. Rosamond is enthusiastic about professional development and collaboration, and she enjoys working with colleagues across schools to support the development of high-quality maths teaching."

Nora Omar - Maths Mastery Specalist and PD Lead
Nora has over 15 years of experience teaching mathematics in schools across South London. She began her teaching career in 2002 and took a career break in 2010 to raise her children and complete an MA in Education. Since returning to the classroom in 2017, she has been a passionate advocate for the Maths Mastery approach, supporting colleagues in embedding it into their practice. Nora is a Secondary Maths Mastery Specialist, a Professional Development Lead, and currently serves as Co-Head of Maths at Woodmansterne School and Sixth Form.

na Waran - Intensive Support Partner and PD Lead
Keshana has been teaching Mathematics to students aged 11-18 in secondary schools based in South London since 2005. Keshana has used her years of experience to lead, support and mentor teachers in the early stages of their career and beyond. Keshana has completed Secondary Mastery training with the NCETM and is an accredited Professional Development Lead. She is passionate about the concept of 'Teaching for Mastery' and the belief that all pupils can engage, enjoy and achieve in the subject.
Theresa Baker - Post-16 PD Lead
Theresa is an experienced mathematics education consultant and professional development lead, specialising in A Level pedagogy. Since 2021, Theresa has worked with the Maths hub to independently to support schools, teachers, and students through tailored consultancy, training, and tutoring. As the lead for an A Level Pedagogy Work Group, they bring deep subject knowledge and a passion for improving post-16 maths teaching. Alongside consultancy, they tutor both A Level and GCSE Maths, drawing on decades of classroom experience. Prior to retiring from school-based teaching, they served as Head of Sixth Form Maths at The Brit School in Croydon, where they championed innovative approaches to learning and student success.

Claire Webb - Post-16
Claire Webb has been teaching Maths in secondary schools in Croydon since 1996 and currently works a Trinity school. She is passionate about thinking about how we can best teach maths to students and became an accredited PD lead with the NCETM to help facilitate her desire to work with other maths teachers. Currently, she is working on a research and innovation project in helping Middle Attainers at A level.
